Being a student of the plants for my entire life (and not realizing it), my favorite haven growing up was wandering in the woods on our farm. Reminiscing, my sister and I were always cutting wild flowers and putting them in vases. Little did I know that those glorious green beings performed miraculous cures. My journey detoured into adulthood and was swept away by society. Marriage, children, and what I thought was my career.......then the plants called me back. Various health issues were happening to family members and something deep inside me was telling me I should be helping them. What was this gnawing knowledge that lay dormant inside of me? I answered the plants and the door opened wide. After a few years of revisiting those woods and meadows as the plants reintroduced themselves to me, the channels of communication was fully open. I was now listening!!
Then came the time to seek out a mentor. Now the journey is getting deeper, the plants are pulling me in deeper. So I'm at a food co-op and there was a book by Rosemary Gladstar, very interesting and she says she does apprenticeships. Now the journey takes another road, all the way to the Green Mountains of Vermont. I did a two-year apprenticeship and then another year training to be a practitioner. An Herbalist I am and loving every minute of it. Many other very skilled practitioners entered my circle and touched my heart. Its an honor and blessing to have been taught by some of the best clinical Herbalists: Amanda McQuade Crawford, Karyn Sanders, Matthew Wood, Margi Flint, Phyllis D Light, and my Lakota friend Paul Red Elk. Their influences have guided and molded me into how I practice herbal medicine. It's important to work with various practitioners, you then develop your own unique way of practicing. But do not forget the most important teachers; our green friends. Almost two decades have passed since I first really opened my heart to listen to plants and its something I still continue to do today. Listen, they will speak to you.

I frequently speak at various functions on herbal medicine and health issues along with diets and whole foods cooking, and also for herb walks. I teach nursing students the holistic approach to medicine, take them on herb walks, and even do some hands on trama demos.
A seasonal apprenticeship program is available, guiding budding herbalists', teaching them how to communicate with the plants, learn of their physical constitutions, harvest them respectfully and honorably, transform their energies into physical medicines, how the body sytems interact with the plants, and working with the clients.
I also put into the calendar year short classes at my office, mainly during late fall on into early spring. During the growing season I am busy gathering, drying, and storing medicine along with meeting with clients and working with apprentices and interns.
I am excited to say recently a reporter came to me and we enjoyed a lengthy interview where he wrote a great article which is published in the Rochester Post Bulletin. www.postbulletin.com/localbusiness
If you have a group or organization that is looking for an interesting speaker, I'd love to come. Herb walks are conducted from May through October. I speak at colleges and various other holistic events.

"Man can never excel nature in medicine manufacture,
for she makes the best one."
quoted from -Juliette de Bairacli Levy
Plants are whole beings as we are. They seek to put us back into balance through mind, body, and spirit.
"Isolating an active constituent from a plant is an affront to nature. It is like taking the intelligence and leaving the wisdom behind."
Deepak Chopra
